What to Expect
Congratulations on reaching your senior year! You have been anxiously awaiting your senior pictures and now the time is here and.......you are nervous! Know that this is absolutely normal. I always tell my clients it will feel weird for at least the first 20 minutes. Don't worry though, I will help guide you through the entire session, including how to pose, where to put your hands, help with wardrobe malfunctions, and unruly hair!
My goal is to capture your personality and provide you with photos you and your family will cherish for years to come!
Feel free to bring a friend or family member if you would like. Make sure it is someone who you are comfortable with and who understands our creative process and vision.
We will meet approximately 15 minutes before the session begins to go over the plan, look through your outfits, and discuss any concerns that you may have. Then the magic begins. I will look for inspiration and lighting that I know will give you great photos while keeping your desires in mind. We will move through many different poses and spots within one location before heading to the next. I will also let you peek at the back of my camera along the way to show you how awesome you look and to get your input on the session.
SEt aside Time to Shop:
Whether you are planning to put together outfits from your closet, head to a friend's house to borrow their clothes, or purchasing new ones - be sure to plan your outfits ahead of time and try them on to make sure things fit. Please keep in mind that we will be doing poses where you may have to sit or lay down in. I am available through email to help advise you on outfits if you are stuck on what to wear. However bring any possibilities with you and we will decide together what will help make your session great! Pinterest can be your best friend!
location:
I work with each senior to pick a location that is meaningful or exciting to them within 30 miles of Bad Axe or beyond (travel charge applies). While I do have some public locations available, to make your session truly unique this may be the time when you want to use any personal connections you have for private areas or land. Know that we will always choose lighting over scenery! You will also need to prioritize where you want to end your session at golden hour as this may determine our location. Depending on your outfits and preferences, we can choose up to three locations (depending on the session) that meet my requirements for natural lighting within close proximity, or stick with one versatile location. Clients are required to obtain permission/permits for any private property or locations requiring permission/permits.
Consider this:
MAKE-UP: Get your hair and makeup done by a PROFESSIONAL! Not having “every day” hair and makeup will make you feel SO beautiful and really enhance your images! Bring along touch up make-up with you. If you do your own make sure you apply product to reduce frizz/fly aways and hairspray!
WARDROBE: I recommend packing more outfits than the session allows, including shoes, appropriate bras & undies, jewelry and accessories. When you arrive, we'll go through your wardrobe and create a plan for your session. Avoid too loose clothing or too clingy clothing. If you want a flowy look, make sure the top is form fitting to give you shape. Layers are a great way to add texture and variety to a session.
NAILS: Your hands will be in the photos. Make sure you don't have chipped polish. I recommend going with a neutral nail color that will match all your outfits!
ACCESSORIES: When planning your outfits, don’t forget to plan accessories!! Stacks of bangles, long necklaces, statement pieces, scarves, hats, bright shoes and other add-ons can make or break an outfit!
SHAVING: Guys... please make sure to come with a clean shave the day of your photos.
SPRAY TAN: If you are planning to get a spray tan PLEASE exfoliate well and do a trial before our portrait day. If you have streaks, white arm pits, orange hands and toes, you WILL see them in the photos. My best advice - skip the spray tan all together!
IRONING: I know... it's probably your least favorite thing to do but, do it anyway. All your clothes need to be ironed and pressed for your shoot. The wrinkles will show up in your final images if not.
MOST PATTERNS are actually OK... however, graphics are not favorable for portraits. If you’re wearing a pattern, make sure it’s not overwhelming and distracting.
GATHER AND CLEAN PROPS: Musical instruments/cars/bikes should be shiny! If you’re including a pet, give them a bath!
BE ON TIME! The sun is only out for so long! The later you arrive, the less time we have to shoot! And nobody wants that!
Number One THing to Do!
Come with an open mind and a positive attitude and enjoy your session!
